Organica Woven Roman Shades

Woven roman shades marry two beloved window treatment traditions: the organic texture of natural fibers and the soft, sculptural folds of roman styling. Each shade is hand‑woven by skilled artisans using sustainably harvested bamboo, jute, or seagrass, then meticulously folded and stitched into a roman configuration. The result is a window covering of exceptional beauty and character—the warm amber of bamboo catching the morning light, the earthy flecks of jute glowing at sunset, the coastal nub of seagrass adding casual elegance. Unlike woven roller shades that roll into a tube, woven roman shades stack into graceful horizontal folds when raised, adding architectural softness to the wall. Available with an optional white‑backed blackout liner for privacy and light control. Custom‑sized to your exact window dimensions, with cordless or motorized lift (motorization recommended for widths over 48 inches). Sustainable, artisanal, and utterly unique.

Artisanal Hand‑Weaving

Organica Woven Roman shades are crafted the traditional way—by master artisans in Southeast Asia working on wooden looms. Fibers are hand‑sorted, sometimes dyed with natural pigments, and woven slowly and intentionally. This process creates the subtle irregularities that make natural shades so compelling: a slightly thicker weft strand, a gentle shift in tone, a bit of organic variation that no machine can replicate. Each shade includes a certificate of authenticity documenting its origin.

Three Natural Fiber Families

Organica offers three distinct natural materials, each with its own texture and personality:

  • Bamboo — smooth, uniform strips ranging from pale blonde to rich amber; FSC‑certified

  • Jute — earthy, textured fibers with a natural sheen and warm brown‑gold tones; grown without pesticides

  • Seagrass — nubby, coastal texture in green‑brown hues; naturally stain‑resistant and harvested from saltwater estuaries

Each fiber type is available in open, medium, and tight weave densities, which influence both light filtration and how the folds present in roman styles.

Roman Fold Styles for Natural Fibers

Natural fibers behave differently from synthetics, and our workrooms tailor the fold style accordingly:

  • Flat Roman — crisp, tailored folds that highlight bamboo’s uniformity

  • Hobbled Roman — continuous soft loops that enhance the depth and texture of jute and seagrass

  • Relaxed Roman — a gentle, curved bottom fold for a casual, organic look

Folds are pressed and stitched to maintain their shape over years of use.

Optional Blackout Liner

Because natural fibers are inherently translucent, Organica shades can be paired with an optional white‑backed blackout liner for full nighttime privacy. The liner attaches only at the headrail and bottom bar, allowing it to raise and lower smoothly with the natural fiber. It delivers 100% light blockage while remaining invisible from the room side.

Motorization Recommended

Natural fiber romans can weigh up to four times more than polyester shades. Cordless spring systems work well on narrow widths (under 48 inches), but for wider shades we strongly recommend motorization. Our high‑torque motors are calibrated to the specific weight of each fiber and use soft‑start/soft‑stop control for smooth, level lifting.

Eco‑Conscious & Sustainable

Organica fibers are among the most sustainable materials available:

  • Bamboo matures in 3–5 years

  • Jute is harvested annually

  • Seagrass regenerates rapidly in coastal estuaries

No old‑growth forests are impacted, and all weaving cooperatives follow fair‑labor standards. At end of life, the natural fiber portion is biodegradable (liner and hardware excluded).

Care & Maintenance

Natural fiber romans thrive when kept dry. They’re not suited for kitchens, bathrooms, or other high‑humidity environments. For routine care:

  • Dust with a feather duster or vacuum gently with a brush attachment

  • Avoid wet cleaning, which can cause warping or mildew

  • For stubborn soil, professional dry cleaning is recommended

  • The optional blackout liner can be spot‑cleaned as needed
