Absolute Zero Total Blackout
Side Channels & Brush Seals
Absolute Zero side channels are engineered for precision light control. Made from 1 mm‑thick aluminum and custom‑cut to your shade’s exact drop, they mount to either the window jamb (inside mount) or the wall (outside mount). Each features a U‑shaped track lined with soft nylon brush pile that gently contacts the fabric edges. The brushes block light without adding friction, while also improving acoustic sealing and reducing drafts. Channels come in mill finish, white, bronze, and black.
Bottom Bar Magnets
A continuous flexible magnet is embedded inside the bottom bar, paired with a ferrous strip adhered to the sill (or floor for full‑height installations). When the shade reaches the bottom, the magnets engage with a clean, audible click, compressing the brush pile and forming a tight seal. The connection is strong enough to resist light airflow yet releases easily when lifting the shade. For sills that can’t accept adhesive—stone, textured surfaces—we offer a weighted drop‑seal that drapes neatly over the sill edge.
Lab‑Tested Zero Transmission
Absolute Zero has been independently tested to ASTM E283, adapted for light‑leak measurement. With side channels, bottom seal, and top seal installed, the system achieved 0.00% measurable light transmission—no fabric glow, no perimeter leakage. Certification documents are available for commercial, medical, and specialty applications that require verified darkness.
Top Seal Options
Light can still escape above the headrail if the top isn’t addressed. Our optional top seal is a flexible PVC extrusion that mounts to the upper frame and compresses gently against the headrail once installed. It blends with the hardware, is available in matching finishes, and is nearly invisible from inside the room.
Commercial Cinema Grade
Absolute Zero is the blackout system specified by several major cinema chains for their premium large‑format auditoriums, including IMAX‑scale environments. It meets SMPTE 196M standards for screen‑surround darkness. If your home theater aims for commercial‑grade performance, this is the system that delivers it.
Motorization Recommended
Because the system includes side channels, brush seals, and a magnetic bottom bar, the overall weight and resistance are higher than a standard shade. For widths over 48 inches, motorization is strongly recommended. Our high‑torque motors are tuned to handle the added drag and magnetic breakaway force smoothly. Cordless spring operation is available for smaller widths, though it requires more effort to raise and lower.
