Aluminum side channels mount to the window jambs, capturing the shade edges and blocking side light. A magnetic bottom bar adheres to a metal strip on the sill, sealing the lower edge. An optional top seal closes the gap above the headrail. When fully deployed, the shade creates a light-tight enclosure that meets the requirements of sleep disorder clinics and commercial cinemas. Yet the shade retains the insulating, noise-reducing benefits of honeycomb construction. Available in 1⅛-inch single-cell and double-cell configurations, with motorized operation only. TripleCell 100% Blackout Fabric

Absolute Zero shades use our TripleCell blackout technology: a decorative face, a dense black light‑absorbing core, and a white heat‑reflective backing, all ultrasonically welded into a single cell wall. Independent testing confirms 0.00% light transmission. Unlike laminated blackout fabrics, TripleCell will never delaminate or develop pinholes.

Side Channels with Brush Seals

The side channels are fabricated from 1.2 mm aluminum and custom‑cut to the exact drop of your shade. They mount to the window jambs (inside mount) or wall (outside mount) and feature a U‑shaped channel lined with nylon brush pile. The shade glides smoothly within the channel while the brush pile compresses against the fabric edges, blocking light without friction. Channels are available in white, bronze, black, or custom powder‑coat colors.

Magnetic Bottom Bar Seal

A continuous strip of flexible magnetic material is embedded in the bottom bar, paired with a ferrous strip adhered to the sill. When the shade is lowered, the magnets engage with a clean, audible click, compressing the brush pile and creating a light‑tight seal. For sills that cannot accept adhesive, a weighted drop‑seal option is available.

Top Seal Options

Even with side channels and a magnetic bottom seal, light can escape over the headrail. Our optional top seal—a flexible PVC extrusion—mounts to the top of the window frame and compresses gently against the headrail. It is available in matching colors and remains virtually invisible once installed.

Motorization Required

Because of the added weight of the side channels, magnetic bottom bar, and the precision required for light‑tight operation, Absolute Zero shades are motorized only. High‑torque motors are calibrated to handle the resistance of brush seals and magnetic engagement. Choose from battery power (3–5 year life) or hardwired 24V options.
