Fire Resistant Shades – Multi‑Standard Compliance
Multiple Fire Safety Standards – One Collection
Our Fire Resistant Shades are certified to meet one or more of the following standards, depending on the fabric selected:
-
NFPA 701 — Standard fire test for flame propagation of textiles and films; the most common requirement for commercial window coverings
-
NFPA 260 — Cigarette ignition resistance; widely used in hospitality and healthcare
-
California TB 117‑2013 — Flammability requirements for upholstered materials; often referenced in multi‑family housing
-
ASTM E84 — Class A (Flame Spread ≤ 25, Smoke Developed ≤ 450); applies to building materials and interior finishes
Not every fabric meets every standard—individual product pages list specific certifications.
Two Fire Resistance Technologies
-
Inherently Flame‑Retardant Fibers — FR additives are integrated into the polyester polymer during extrusion. Permanent, cannot wash off or degrade. Premium option available on select roller, cellular, and zebra fabrics.
-
Topical Flame‑Retardant Treatment — Fabric is immersed in an FR solution and cured. Durable for the life of the fabric when properly maintained. More affordable and available on all polyester fabrics.
Both technologies meet NFPA 701; inherent FR provides additional permanence.

Care & Maintenance of Topical FR Fabrics
Topical flame‑retardant treatments are durable but can be compromised by improper cleaning. To maintain FR performance:
-
Do not dry clean — solvents can remove the FR treatment
-
Spot clean only with mild soap and water
-
Never machine wash or submerge
-
Vacuum regularly using a soft brush attachment
Follow the care label included with your shade.
Certification Documentation
Each Fire Resistant Shade order includes a certificate of compliance listing the specific standards met. Full laboratory test reports are available upon request and are accepted by building inspectors, fire marshals, and facility managers.
