Foundation Basement Shades

Basements are multitasking spaces—home theaters, guest suites, home gyms, playrooms. Yet they often suffer from small, awkwardly placed windows, high humidity, and the need for both privacy and light control. Our basement roller shades address every pain point with materials that resist moisture (PVC, vinyl, treated polyester) and hardware engineered for shallow reveals and extra‑wide spans. Choose blackout shades to transform a windowless‑feeling space into a true media room; opt for light‑filtering shades to brighten a below‑grade living area while maintaining privacy from sidewalk passersby. All shades are custom‑fabricated to fit egress windows, casements, and sliders precisely. Because basements can be damp, we recommend cordless or motorized lift to avoid rust and simplify operation in tight corners. Durable, affordable, and made to measure.

Egress Window Compatibility

Basement egress windows have specific clearance requirements for emergency escape. Our shades mount outside the recess or use ultra‑low‑profile hardware that doesn’t obstruct the opening. The fabric rolls up completely, leaving the window fully accessible. We also offer motorized lift with battery backup, allowing you to raise the shade even during a power outage—a critical safety feature often overlooked.

Humidity & Flood Resilience

Basements are prone to dampness and occasional flooding. Our PVC and vinyl shades are completely waterproof; they can be hosed off and reinstalled after a water event. Even our polyester shades feature closed‑cell construction that resists wicking. We do not recommend natural fiber or wood materials for below‑grade installations. Every basement shade order is reviewed by our fabrication team to ensure appropriate material selection.

Light Control for Mixed‑Use Layouts

A single basement may contain a home theater (needs blackout), a home office (needs glare control), and a gym (needs ventilation with privacy). Our collection spans the full opacity spectrum, all available in coordinating colors. You can install blackout in the theater alcove, light‑filtering on the office window, and sheer on the egress—all in the same shade of grey or white—creating a cohesive look across a visually fragmented space.

Space‑Saving Hardware

Basement windows are often set in deep wells or directly under ceiling joists. Our compact cassette system adds only 2 inches of projection, tucking the shade tight to the wall. For windows mounted in wells, the outside mount bracket extends just 1 inch, clearing obstructions. We also offer a specialty “low‑clearance” clutch for installations with less than 3 inches between window top and ceiling.
