How to Measure
Let’s make sure an inside mount will work for your window!
Using a metal tape measure, first check if you have sufficient depth:
Measure the depth of your window from the back to the front where the shade will be mounted. For Cellular Shades, the required inside-mount depth varies by single cell construction, lift system, and headrail/cassette style. Please refer to the Specifications section for the exact minimum and flush-mount depth requirements. If your window depth does not meet these requirements, please consider an outside mount or a different option.
How to Measure:
Start with the Width:
- Measure inside of the window opening/frame from left to right at the top to the nearest 1/8". If rounding is necessary, round down to the nearest 1/8". That is your ordering width.
Now measure the Height:
- Measure from the top of the opening to the bottom of the opening/sill to the nearest 1/8" in three places: left, middle, and right. Write down all three measurements and circle the tallest. That is your ordering height.
Note: Always provide us with the actual measurement of the window opening. We will make the necessary deduction of approximately 1/2" to the width to accommodate the installation brackets.
No deductions will be made to the ordered height.
Before you start measuring, decide where above your window opening you want to mount your shade. Mounting space requirements vary by single cell construction, lift option, and headrail/cassette style—please check Specifications for details. Follow the directions below based on where you’d like to install your shade.
If you do not have sufficient vertical space for mounting the brackets, please see our inside mount instructions or consider a different option.
Your ordered width will be the “tip to tip” measurement — the widest part including the brackets and cassette/valance (if applicable). The fabric portion may be approximately 1/2" – 1" narrower than the ordered width. If you want the fabric to cover a specific width, consider ordering slightly wider — just ensure you have enough horizontal space to mount the shade.
Above the Window (No Trim)›
Width:
Decide what area you would like to cover. We recommend extending about 2–4" on each side of the window opening for better light control and appearance.
Measure left to right including your desired extra space on each side — that is your ordering width.
Height:
Measure from where you will mount the shade down to where you want the bottom of the shade to end. If you have a protruding windowsill, measure down to the top of the sill. That is your ordering height.
Above the Trim›
Width:
We recommend extending about 2–3" on either side of the window opening for better light control and appearance.
Measure left to right including any desired extra space on each side — that is your ordering width.
Height:
Measure from where you will mount the shade down to where you want the bottom of the shade to end (or to the bottom of the trim). If you have a protruding windowsill, measure down to the top of the sill. That is your ordering height.
Note: If your trim is thick, you may need shims (not included) for additional clearance.
On the Trim›
Width:
Measure outer edge to outer edge of the trim at the top of the window. That is your ordering width. Note: the fabric portion may be narrower than the ordered width.
Height:
Measure from the top of your trim to the bottom of your trim (or to the top of the sill). That is your ordering height.
Door Mount›
Width:
Measure left to right from the outside edge of the trim around the glass to the other outside edge. For better light control, consider ordering 2–4" wider if space allows.
Height:
Measure from where you will mount the shade down to where you want the bottom to end. That is your ordering height.
Recommendations and Limitations
Important Notes
- Deductions may vary +/- 1/8". Do not account for factory deductions when measuring for your shade. Deduction information detailed in the table below.
- The back of the product comes white to conform with HOA standards.
- Note there will be slight gaps on sides due to fabric deductions when inside mount selected. For more light blockage, consider ordering as outside mount.
Motorization Details
- The motorized remote is not included; at least one remote is required per order.
- A fully charged battery lasts approximately 6-12 months based on raising and lowering a standard-sized shade once per day.
- The battery can be recharged up to 500 times, and a full recharge takes approximately 5 hours when fully depleted.
- The 15-channel remote can control up to 15 individual window treatments.
- The remote range is approximately 260 feet.
- Upper and lower limits are preprogrammed, but remotes are not preprogrammed at the factory. Please refer to the installation guide to program the remote according to your preferences.
- An additional Hub allows control of motorized curtains via Alexa and the free, downloadable Tuya Smart app, compatible with iOS and Android systems.
