Using a metal tape measure, first check your inside mounting depth. Depth is measured from the window glass or back of the opening to the front edge where the brackets will sit.
Before measuring, also make sure the top of your window opening is flat and even, with no bumps, gaps, or obstructions that could prevent the mounting brackets from sitting securely.
See Specifications for the minimum inside-mount depth and flush-mount depth required for your selected lift system.
If your window does not provide enough mounting depth, please use our outside mount instructions instead.
Let’s start with the Width:
Now, let’s do the Height:
Note: Always provide the actual window opening measurements. For inside mounts, we may make a small deduction to help ensure proper fit and smooth operation.
Before you start, decide where you want to mount your Roman shades: above the window opening, above the trim, directly on the trim, or on a door. Make sure the mounting location provides a flat and secure surface for the brackets.
See Specifications for the current size and mounting requirements for your selected lift system.
For an outside mount, your ordering width and height should include the full area you want the Roman shade to cover. Adding extra coverage beyond the window opening can help improve privacy, light control, and the finished appearance.
Decide how much coverage you want on each side of the window opening. Measure from left to right including your desired overlap. That is your ordering width.
Measure from where the top of the Roman shade will be mounted down to where you want the bottom of the shade to reach. If you have a protruding sill, measure to the top of the sill or to your preferred stopping point. That is your ordering height.
Decide how far you want the Roman shade to extend beyond the window opening or trim. Measure from left to right including your desired coverage. That is your ordering width.
Measure from where the top of the Roman shade will be mounted down to your desired bottom point. If you have a protruding sill, measure to the top of the sill or to your preferred stopping point. That is your ordering height.
Make sure the trim provides a flat and secure mounting surface. Measure the width of the area where you want the Roman shade to sit. That is your ordering width.
Measure from the top mounting position down to where you want the Roman shade to stop. If you have a protruding sill, measure to the top of the sill or to your preferred stopping point. That is your ordering height.
Measure the width of the area you want the Roman shade to cover, making sure there is enough clear space for the shade and mounting hardware. That is your ordering width.
Measure from where you want the top of the Roman shade mounted down to where you want the bottom of the shade to stop. That is your ordering height.
Fabric colors may vary between dye lots.
To ensure that all shades in the same room are made from the same dye lot, we recommend ordering all Roman shades for the room at the same time.
Pleat sizes may vary when multiple shades are ordered in different heights.
For a more consistent appearance, we recommend ordering all shades in the same room using the longest required length and selecting the same lift system.
For outside-mount installations, the fabric may extend more than 2 inches away from the wall. To help minimize side light gaps, we recommend adding at least 4 inches to the total shade width beyond the actual window width.
The factory will make the following deduction from the width you enter:
Built-In No-Drill Roman Shades: Approximately 4 mm (0.16 inches, or about 5/32 inch) will be deducted from the width.
Do not make any deductions or allowances when measuring. The factory will apply the required deduction automatically.
A safety tension device is required by law for all continuous chain loops and operating chains. It prevents the chain from hanging freely in a loose loop.
Install the safety device as far as possible from the control mechanism so that the chain remains properly tensioned without any slack.
Fabric Roman shades may have slight wrinkles after installation. Most minor wrinkles will naturally smooth out within several days.
For faster results, gently use a garment steamer on the back of the shade. Avoid allowing the steamer to come into direct contact with the fabric.
Motorized shades are powered by rechargeable lithium-ion batteries.
For transportation safety, the batteries will be shipped with no more than a 30% charge. Fully charge the shades before first use to ensure optimal performance.
Factory deductions may vary by approximately ±1/8 inch.
Do not account for factory deductions when measuring your shades. Please refer to the deduction chart on the product page for additional details.
Even when the Roman shade is fully raised, the folded fabric will still cover a portion of the upper window.
Before ordering, please consider the shade’s stacking height based on the window height and your natural-light requirements.
