GREENGUARD vs. GREENGUARD Gold

  • GREENGUARD Certified — Meets strict chemical‑emission limits for more than 360 VOCs and total chemical emissions. Suitable for offices and general commercial environments.

  • GREENGUARD Gold Certified — Meets even stricter limits designed for sensitive populations such as children and the elderly. Gold certification includes additional chemical restrictions and significantly lower total VOC thresholds.

What GREENGUARD Gold Tests For

GREENGUARD Gold certification requires testing for more than 10,000 chemicals, including:

  • VOCs — benzene, toluene, styrene, formaldehyde, and many others

  • Aldehydes — acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, and other respiratory irritants

  • Phthalates — plasticizers linked to endocrine disruption

  • Heavy metals — lead, cadmium, mercury, chromium

  • Pesticides & flame retardants of concern

Products must pass ongoing quarterly testing to maintain certification.
