Using a metal tape measure, first check your inside mounting depth. Depth is measured from the window glass or back of the opening to the front edge where the brackets will sit.
Before measuring, also make sure the top of your window opening is flat and even, with no bumps, gaps, or obstructions that could prevent the mounting brackets from sitting securely.
See Specifications for the minimum inside-mount depth and flush-mount depth required for your selected lift system.
If your window does not provide enough mounting depth, please use our outside mount instructions instead.
Let’s start with the Width:
Now, let’s do the Height:
Note: Always provide the actual window opening measurements. For inside mounts, we may make a small deduction to help ensure proper fit and smooth operation.
Before you start, decide where you want to mount your Roman shades: above the window opening, above the trim, directly on the trim, or on a door. Make sure the mounting location provides a flat and secure surface for the brackets.
See Specifications for the current size and mounting requirements for your selected lift system.
For an outside mount, your ordering width and height should include the full area you want the Roman shade to cover. Adding extra coverage beyond the window opening can help improve privacy, light control, and the finished appearance.
Decide how much coverage you want on each side of the window opening. Measure from left to right including your desired overlap. That is your ordering width.
Measure from where the top of the Roman shade will be mounted down to where you want the bottom of the shade to reach. If you have a protruding sill, measure to the top of the sill or to your preferred stopping point. That is your ordering height.
Decide how far you want the Roman shade to extend beyond the window opening or trim. Measure from left to right including your desired coverage. That is your ordering width.
Measure from where the top of the Roman shade will be mounted down to your desired bottom point. If you have a protruding sill, measure to the top of the sill or to your preferred stopping point. That is your ordering height.
Make sure the trim provides a flat and secure mounting surface. Measure the width of the area where you want the Roman shade to sit. That is your ordering width.
Measure from the top mounting position down to where you want the Roman shade to stop. If you have a protruding sill, measure to the top of the sill or to your preferred stopping point. That is your ordering height.
Measure the width of the area you want the Roman shade to cover, making sure there is enough clear space for the shade and mounting hardware. That is your ordering width.
Measure from where you want the top of the Roman shade mounted down to where you want the bottom of the shade to stop. That is your ordering height.

Designed for spaces where stronger light control matters, SenseBlinds Blackout Roman Shades combine dependable blackout performance with clean, structured Roman folds. The result is a darker, more private room with the finished look and dimension of a fabric window treatment.
Custom-made to your window measurements and available in multiple lift options, these shades are especially well suited for bedrooms, nurseries, media rooms, and other spaces where reducing outside light is a priority.
Lower the shade for stronger light control and full privacy, or raise it to bring daylight back into the room. Like all Roman shades, one fabric fold remains visible at the top when the shade is fully raised.
Lower the shade to significantly reduce incoming daylight and create a darker, more comfortable space. The blackout fabric provides full privacy, while evenly spaced horizontal folds maintain the clean, structured look of a Roman shade.
When fully raised, most of the window is exposed while one fabric fold remains visible at the top. This remaining fold covers a small portion of the window and slightly reduces the open view and incoming daylight.
Roman shades are made with an odd number of horizontal folds, with each fold typically measuring approximately 8–12 inches in height. Because the total shade height determines the final fold layout, shades with different heights may use different numbers of folds.
For windows in the same room or on the same wall, please order the shades together and add a note if you would like the folds aligned. If you require a specific fold height or spacing range, please contact us by email before ordering.
Explore two blackout fabric collections, each with its own subtle surface character. Choose the softer appearance of Soft Texture or the more understated finish of Subtle Texture to complement your space.
