B1 Fire Rated Shades – International Fire Safety Standard
What is B1 Fire Rating?
DIN 4102 is a German fire‑safety standard that classifies building materials based on their reaction to fire. B1 is the classification for “flammable building materials – difficult to ignite” (schwerentflammbar). To earn a B1 rating, materials must:
-
Self‑extinguish within a specified time once the ignition source is removed
-
Prevent flame spread beyond the tested area
-
Avoid producing excessive smoke or flaming droplets
B1 is the highest classification for non‑combustible building materials and is required for many commercial and public projects across Europe and internationally.
Inherently Flame‑Retardant Fibers
Our B1‑rated fabrics are woven from inherently flame‑retardant polyester, not treated with topical chemicals that can wash off or degrade. The FR additives are integrated into the polymer during fiber extrusion, ensuring:
-
Permanent protection — Will never wash out or wear away
-
No chemical migration — Additives remain locked inside the fiber
-
Consistent performance — Uniform protection across the entire fabric
-
Environmentally preferable — No hazardous reapplications or surface treatments
Available Across All Shade Styles
B1 Fire Rated fabrics are available across our standard polyester collections:
-
B1 Roller Shades — Smooth, textured, linen‑look; light‑filtering, room‑darkening, blackout
-
B1 Roman Shades — Flat, hobbled, relaxed; light‑filtering, room‑darkening, blackout
-
B1 Cellular Shades — Single‑cell and double‑cell; light‑filtering, room‑darkening, blackout
-
B1 Zebra Shades — 3" and 3.5" bands; light‑filtering, room‑darkening, blackout
-
B1 Sheer Shades — 2" and 2.5" vanes; light‑filtering, room‑darkening
Premium collections (Premier, B5) and specialty fabrics (linen blend, metallic) are not available in B1‑rated versions.
Ideal for International Projects
B1 certification is recognized—and often required—in:
-
Europe — Germany, France, UK, Italy, Spain, and EU member states
-
Middle East — UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, where DIN standards are widely referenced
-
Asia — Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan; common in luxury hotels and offices
-
North America — While NFPA 701 is more common, B1 is accepted as an equivalent standard for many global brands
Certification Documentation
Every B1 Fire Rated shade order includes a certificate of compliance and, upon request, the official DIN 4102 B1 test report from an accredited laboratory. These documents are accepted by building inspectors, fire marshals, and project specifiers worldwide.
